Day 23: I Went to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo

Today I’m wearing:
  • The Dress
  • A pretty basic H&M hoodie. I imagine most people have one kicking about somewhere.
  • My Wonder Woman t-shirt
  • Super warm and comfy Ecco ankle boots.
Today was pretty darn exciting in Caitlin World. It involved going on an adventure. I went to the zoo for the first time in about 15 years and it was good. Having said that, it couldn’t have been much worse than last time, which involved watching a dying chimpanzee, getting a stomach bug and up-chucking my tropical Calippo everywhere. The scent of passion fruit still makes my tummy turn.
Anyway, we went to Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire for an afternoon of adventure. Highlights involved the sealion show, the snoozy brown bears, watching giraffes graze, the crash of white rhinos* (see the above photo) and hearing a lion roar. I don’t usually know what to think about zoos- the depressed polar bear at Flamingo Land rather coloured my view- but this one seemed good. There was lots of space, details of breeding programmes dotted around on brightly coloured info boards, and no animals seemed to be particularly miserable. Not that I’d know if an animal was miserable. The penguins especially seemed quite happy; there were some “special cuddles” going on when we walked past.

It was rather on the nippy side, as you can see below. The Wonder Woman t-shirt came from Vanilla Underground, and I bought it with some of my birthday spondulix. They do have a good range of band and superhero t-shirts if you’re that way inclined.

The boots came from my grandma, who found they were too big for her. They’re a little roomy for me, but nothing that a little tight lacing can’t fix. They’re fleece-lined and supportive of my flat feet. I’m actually secretly a little glad that today was chilly enough to wear them.

We took the photos at the white rhino enclosure. Other potential photo places included the lion viewing point but other tourists were all over that like a cheap suit, and the meerkat mound, but it turns out meerkats are quite small and like to hide. Those Compare the Meerkat adverts are a web of lies. I also got some extremely good news while I was at the meerkat bit and so thoughts of photos just flew out of my head. I can’t say what it is, but I’m very very excited and happy and pleased and think it’s about bloody time.
No, I’m not engaged.
One week tomorrow and One Dress One Month will be over.
I wrote the other day about St Michael’s offering specialised bereavement support through their Just ‘B’ service. I had a look on the website and found a case study of 7 year old Sam who lost his grandma too. She wasn’t in the hospice but St Michael’s take care of the whole community, not just those who come to them at the end. Have a read.

We’re going trampolining tomorrow! I think tomorrow’s outfit will involve some jeans as jumping around does not agree with the Dress. No one wants to see my pants.
This evening involves Eurovision. I’m excited.

*That’s the collective noun for rhinos. They weren’t running about or anything.
